Dental Fillings (White Fillings)

What are Dental Fillings?

Dental fillings are crucial in replacing areas of a tooth that have become decayed. We use white fillings in our office, which are free of metal and look more natural. White fillings are matched perfectly to your existing teeth so that no one but you and the dental team knows they’re in your mouth. The filling procedure is effective, easy and can be done in no time in our office.

Why are Dental Fillings needed?

A filling is normally needed if you have a cavity in one or more teeth. If the cavity is allowed to get worse, the decay will eventually reach the inner pulp of the tooth, causing the need for a root canal. Before the decay is allowed to get to this point, you can have a filling placed. The filling helps to restore the tooth to its original size and shape while providing strength and integrity to its structure.

What makes you a candidate for Dental Fillings?

To determine if you need a filling, it’s recommended that you come in for an exam. We may take x-rays of the area to check for hard-to-find cavities. Fillings are incredibly beneficial and can help to stop the spread of decay. Dental fillings can be used for both pediatric as well as adult patients.

What happens during the procedure for Dental Fillings?

First, we will administer local anesthetic so that the filling procedure is as comfortable as possible. The decay is then removed from the tooth completely so that only a small hole remains. This hole is prepped for the white filling material. The composite resin, which is white in color, is poured into the small hole and smoothed into place. A bright light is used to cure and harden the filling so that it is not able to fall out. Your new filling can last for many years before it’ll need to be replaced.
